As young Sikhs woke up at our camp this summer, they had an unusual guest coming who would be observing their kirtan, Sikh trivia games and workshops. The story was carried across at least local NPR radio affiliates reaching a potential 3. Let me repeat, local NPR radio affiliates with a potential to reach 3. The resulting high-impact radio segment simply would not have been possible without the outstanding Sikh Coalition team. Staff at the Sikh Coalition worked tirelessly behind the scenes to pitch the story, provide NPR with background information, and facilitate every detail with us to ensure that the reporting was accurate and represented the Sikh community well. This piece is special because I had the opportunity to witness our Sikh children share their stories and opinions with a major media outlet. Representation absolutely matters. We must tell our stories — our stories of resilience, character, service and community power.
